Rick Miller, Dean of Undergraduate Academic and Graduate Programs (2007), Philosophy (1972)
Rick Miller received his B.A. cum laude in philosophy from Colgate University in 1967 and his Ph.D. in philosophy from Columbia University in 1979. His dissertation title was “The Naturalistic Metaphysics of John Buridan.”
Dr. Miller’s research interests include medieval, modern, and contemporary philosophy; the problem of free will; consciousness; aesthetics and the philosophy of art; moral and political philosophy; philosophy of religion; and classical Chinese thought.
Some of his recent or soon-to-be-offered courses include Some Riddles of Existence, Political Philosophy, Wagner’s Ring as Philosophical Drama, Nietzsche, Philosophy of Art, Philosophy of Religion, and Emerson as Philosopher.
The philosopher he finds himself constantly having to deal with is Kant.
Recent notable books he has read include Ronald W. Hepburn’s Wonder and T.L.S. Sprigge’s The God of Metaphysics.
