Brenda MorieBrenda Morie

Guitar and Ukulele

Guitar and ukulele instructor Brenda Morie enjoys a prolific career as a professional flutist, vocalist, guitarist, and educator. She has toured with gold and platinum drummer Chet McCracken and Nancy Sinatra, and her playing has been featured on numerous recordings and motion picture soundtracks.

Brenda has taught private lessons on voice, guitar, flute, recorder and improvisation for classically trained students. Her students have gone on to perform with major theatrical productions and artists such as ELO, Rod Stewart, John Tess, Taylor Swift and the Beach Boys. Prior to moving to back to Winston-Salem, Brenda served as a Senior Musikgarten Instructor at Tutti Music School in Hong Kong, where she taught up to 17 classes a week in Family Music for Toddlers and Cycle of Seasons courses, as well as helping with babies and children's music choir classes.

Brenda’s love for teaching children’s music first began in 2005 when she became aware of the Amani Children’s Project in Kenya, a project to build orphanages for children of parents with AIDS. To help raise funds for the project, a series of children’s choir CDs were recorded in the United States. She produced the first of this series, Amani Means Peace.

“In doing so, we recorded and organized 12 choirs of over 800 children from preschool to high school aged children in North Carolina,” she says. “This love of music and its power to make a positive impact on children's lives is what led me to become a licensed Musikgarten instructor.

I believe a musician lives for and loves the music; sharing our joy with others is part of the creative experience. As an artist and teacher, I look forward to inspiring you and your child on a musical journey. There is no better opportunity to reach and inspire a musical heart than when working with children.

Brenda began guitar at age 8, learning the some of the styles of Doc Watson, Delta Blues, Bruce Coburn, Flamenco and Classical, focusing on finger-picking styles and strong rhythm from Reggae, Rock and R&B. She was fortunate to study under some wonderfully inspiring teachers and great players in the business. Brenda has taught all ages — from as young as 6 to 60 years of age — and enjoys watching each student's process.

In addition to teaching guitar, ukulele and Musikgarten at the UNCSA Community Music School, Brenda is a full time teacher and sunset studio Musikgarten teacher at The Montessori School of Winston Salem.
