Dean’s Council Overview

The Dean’s Council is a highly select group of individuals who share a real love and passion for dance. Membership is limited to a small group of committed people, ensuring an intimate atmosphere that will foster the opportunity for all members to contribute in a positive and impactful way. More specifically, members understand that great dancers are shaped through education and inspiration, recognizing that the School of Dance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts is one of the premier institutions training for professional careers. The Dean’s Council is an advisory committee to the dean, Ethan Stiefel, providing creative, strategic, and financial support in order to bring fresh and innovative ideas to life. Dean Stiefel cultivates the membership as spirited associates, sharing and discussing ideas in a relaxed atmosphere through an open and collaborative dialogue. The Dean’s Council is active in creating scholarship opportunities, initiating special projects and events and in forming artistic exchanges between Dance and UNCSA’s four other arts schools. The Dean’s Council will also play a vital role in promoting dance in our community and beyond, helping to bring ground-breaking artists, repertoire, and resident companies to the School of Dance.
