Joseph Tilford

Bill Brewer

Bill Brewer has worked professionally as a designer, director and educator for 30 years.
With his M.F.A. from Carnegie-Mellon University, Mr. Brewer has designed for theatre, ballet, opera, film and television, both nationally and internationally. Notable productions include Cathy Rigby’s Peter Pan, and Sweeney Todd starring Jean Stapleton both at San Jose Civic Light Opera. Mr. Brewer has designed for Berkley Repertory Theatre, Berkley Shakespeare Theatre, Nebraska Repertory Theatre, Minnesota Repertory Theatre, The Unicorn Theatre, American Stage, The Waterfront Playhouse and Orlando Repertory Theatre. He has also designed for Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Ballet West, Redwood Empire Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and San Francisco Opera. Recent works include a ballet for Theatre Dejazet (Paris France), a series of dance pieces in Milan, Italy, and a dance film about the last hours of the life of Joan of Arc, filmed on location in and around Paris, France. Mr. Brewer has also designed numerous projects for PBS and worked as an assistant designer for Lucas Film.

Mr. Brewer is actively involved United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) on the regional, national and international levels. He was instrumentally involved with costume curation and installation for the Prague exhibit 2007. His designs have twice been included in the United States’ exhibit to the Prague Quadrennial, and thrice been selected from USITT’s Design Expo for publication in Theatre Design and Technology (TD&T). Mr. Brewer’s costume designs for The School for Scandal were included in the gallery exhibit at World Stage Design in Toronto, 2005.

Mr. Brewer has taught at Carnegie-Mellon University, San Francisco State University, University of Minnesota and the University of South Florida.  Mr. Brewer is a non-active member of Actor’s Equity Association and an active member of United Scenic Artists 829.
