A Message from the Dean:
Welcome to the School of Design and Production. We offer a thorough and comprehensive group of professional training programs to students, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; students who will become the next generation of artists, technicians, leaders and innovators in our industry. Our programs and faculty are well known and highly respected throughout the entertainment industry, both nationally and internationally. We are an elite training program like no other – we are a pathway to great careers in the industry.
We have the single largest design, technical and management faculty in the country, with two dozen full-time faculty members, all with the highest level of professional theatre experience and credentials in their fields. All are working professionals, as well as outstanding teachers. Their experience and professional network connections to the industry are an invaluable resource for our students.
As an arts conservatory, we provide a hands-on educational experience for all our students that is unsurpassed by other programs. In partnership with UNCSA’s Schools of Drama, Music, and Dance, the School of Design and Production produces more than 25 separate theatre, dance and opera events each year, totaling nearly 100 individual performances, all of which are student designed, produced, promoted and managed.
We also have outstanding facilities for learning, with large state-of-the-art shops, the latest equipment, student studio spaces, and several theatres, from a small “black box” space to larger arena and thrust theatres, to a luxurious Broadway-style proscenium theatre, all of which serve as hands-on training laboratories and experiences for our students.
We are a unique institution – a place of higher education completely committed to providing the best professional training in design, production and management. We are known for the strength of our faculty, the talent and accomplishments of our students and alumni, the depth of our infrastructure, and the quality of our innovation. We are truly a place of Acknowledged Excellence!
As a graduate of the School of Design and Production, I understand, first-hand, the truly speical place that this is. I am very excited to now be working at the school that has meant so much to me over the years. As I get started, I look forward to working with the outstanding faculty members of D and P, and getting to know the exceptional students we have here.
