The School of Design and Production recently hosted the Third Annual UNCSA Entertainment Innovation Conference on the campus of UNCSA. The conference was a three-day event presented by Cirque du Soleil and its business partners, and included demonstrations and workshops covering the use of cutting-edge technologies in Cirque du Soleil productions, including automation techniques, rigging, show operations, digital projection, wardrobe/wig/makeup, and audio systems. Additional workshops were presented by the professionals from Cirque du Soleil in the areas of stage and company management.
Some two dozen presenters, along with more than 300 students and faculty from the School of Design and Production and guests from colleges, universities and private theatre companies from all over the United States, participated in this exciting event. Further details of the 2011 conference, including specific program and session details, can be found at eic.uncsa.edu.
Complementing each day’s activities, Cirque du Soleil presented two free outdoor screenings of full-length films of Cirque du Soleil productions “La Nouba” and “Alegria.” The films were shown on the grassy area in front of the Hanes Student Commons and were projected onto a 40-foot screen hanging from the Commons, with state-of-the-art projection and sound. Blankets, coolers, lawn chairs and popcorn were part of the fun of the evenings!
