Donors who fund endowed gifts are among our closest family members. They understand and are committed to the mission and goals of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Endowed funds provide permanent support for some of UNCSA’s most important activities and may be used to establish a fund named in memory or in honor of an individual or organization, or may be designated for scholarships, guest artists, faculty development or program support. It may be allocated for general use (where the need is greatest) or specified for a particular arts school. By generating a steady stream of income while leaving the principal untouched, endowment funds make it possible for UNCSA to weather the ebb and flow of other sources of funding.

 Establishing an UNCSA Endowment Fund

  • Named Endowment – Minimum

You can establish an endowment with a minimum gift of $25,000 by making an outright gift in the form of cash, stocks/appreciated securities, real property or personal property. If your employer is a matching gift company, the matching gift can be used to establish the $25,000 minimum for an endowment fund. You can also establish an endowment fund through one of several planned giving instruments.

The School distributes a percentage of interest income annually (usually five percent) for the purpose you set forth in the original funding document. Additional earned interest automatically goes to the principal to increase the endowment corpus.

The Founder’s Society

By establishing an endowment fund at the School of the Arts, a donor automatically becomes a member of the Founders Society in perpetuity

The Founders Society was established in 1997 to both honor the vision of the early founders of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and to acknowledge friends and patrons who have invested in the School's future.

In recognition of your significant contribution, UNCSA will offer you the following benefits:

  • Recognition at a special event honoring Founders Society members
  • Annual reports of endowment fund activity and, in the case of endowed scholarship funds, information about scholarship recipients

You may establish an endowment fund by making a gift directly to the School of the Arts at:
