Jesse Berger is founding artistic director of Red Bull Theater, having directed all of its productions since 2003, including Pericles, The Revenger’s Tragedy, Edward the Second, Women Beware Women, The Duchess of Malfi, The Witch of Edmonton, The Maids, and Volpone; produced the ongoing Revelation Reading Series, In-the-Raw workshop program; and the company’s Direct Address educational outreach. Jesse has also directed plays for Denver Center, Old Globe, Pittsburgh Public, PlayMakers, Barrington Stage, the O’Neill, and others, including the Great Lakes, Idaho, St. Louis, Arizona, Hamptons, and Utah Shakespeare Festivals. Jesse’s work has been recognized with Helen Hayes and Obie Awards, nominations for Lucille Lortel, Drama League, and Callaway Awards. Jesse has taught and directed at Juilliard, NYU, Shakespeare Theatre Academy for Classical Acting, UT-Austin, University of Minnesota, Bard, New School, VCU, Michael Howard Studios, and the American Academy of Dramatic Art. Jesse trained at Central College-London and Southern Utah University, home of the Utah Shakespearean Festival. Jesse was assistant director of the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, DC for three seasons, was the 1999 US Directing Fellow at Shakespeare’s Globe in London, and began his professional career as an assistant director to Garland Wright at The Guthrie Theater.
