 Editing and Sound

From their arrival at the School of Filmmaking, students are introduced to the critical role editing and sound play in the creative process of making movies. First and second year students edit Panasonic 24p projects on their personal Apple laptops using Final Cut Studio 2. Third and fourth year students shoot on 16mm film processed at FotoKem and edit in our Final Cut Pro KONA 3 and AVID Adrenaline online suites. Students use ProTools HD to edit dialogue, ADR, music and sound effects. The School of Filmmaking has its own ADR/Foley stage. Third and fourth-year students do a final dialogue, music and sound effects mix on the Film Scoring Stage using ProTools HD. Full orchestral scores may also be recorded using musicians from the NCSA Symphony Orchestra. These and other original scores are written by graduate students in our Film Music Composition Master’s program.
