Through Kenan Arts Research Fellowships, the Kenan Institute facilitates inquiry, leads interactions and supports initiatives that identify and track skills and knowledge in leadership, entrepreneurship and innovation in the arts with UNCSA students, graduates, faculty and the field.

Emily Simoness, an innovative arts entrepreneur who graduated from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in 2007 with a BFA in acting, is the Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts’ first Kenan Arts Research Fellow.

Norman Coates

Norman Coates
Norman Coates is the Director of Lighting at UNCSA and the founder of the Winston-Salem Light Project (2007) which expands UNCSA lighting students' knowledge and skills to include projects in architecture and public art. He is the Kenan Institute’s first Kenan Arts Research Faculty Fellow.
