Meredith Hite is an assistant professor of oboe at the North Carolina School of the Arts. With degrees from Julliard, Yale, and Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Hite has taught at the University of Southern Mississippi and the Music Institute of Chicago. She has performed with the orchestras of the Metropolitan Opera and American Ballet Theatre. As a chamber musician, she performs with the Chicago-based Fifth House Ensemble and is founding member of Reed5, a semi-finalist for the Concert Artist Guild Competition in 2012.
Hite is deeply committed to connecting with the next generation of musicians and audiences alike, through music education and community outreach. As instructor of oboe, chamber music, and musicianship at Chicago’s premiere community music school, Music Institute of Chicago, she served as the site-coordinator of the Gratz Center campus on Michigan Avenue. As a Ravinia Teaching Artist, she worked with Fifth House Ensemble in Chicago public schools, and also maintained a private studio of both oboe and piano students at The Musical Offering in Evanston, Ill. While in New York, she was an adjunct faculty member at Nyack College (New York City campus), introducing a new chamber music curriculum, as well as teaching ear-training and applied oboe. In addition to her oboe studio duties at Southern Miss, she taught a class for all freshman performance majors on professionalism, music entrepreneurship, and how to thrive in college and beyond.
