Degree Programs
The A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute offers two distinct programs of study: a two-year
graduate training program (renewable for a third year) awarding the Master of Music
degree in Vocal Performance and a one-year (renewable for a second year) post-graduate
advanced training program awarding the Professional Artist Certificate.
Master of Music
The Master of Music in Vocal Performance degree program admits a select number of
qualified singers who demonstrate the potential for advanced study in opera. Highlights
of the graduate opera degree program:
- Guaranteed roles in fully-staged productions, scenes, touring and outreach programs
- Master classes and workshops with renowned visiting artist teachers
- A course of study specially designed to nurture professional growth which includes:
- Advanced study in voice, with two private lessons per week
- Weekly vocal/diction coachings with resident vocal coach
- Weekly dramatic coachings with resident faculty
- Language and diction study
- Acting and movement work
- Freeing the body for effective performance
- Career enhancement strategies
Singers admitted to the Institute’s graduate program are awarded full tuition/fees,
health insurance, plus a $3,600 stipend in year one and a $4,200 stipend in year two
to help cover living expenses.
Professional Artist Certificate
The Professional Artist Certificate (PAC) is a post-Masters program that admits a
select number of uniquely qualified singers who demonstrate exceptional potential
for success in a professional career. Highlights of the program:
- Guaranteed roles in fully-staged productions, scenes, touring and outreach programs
- Advanced study in voice, with two private lessons per week
- Individual role coachings with resident artist faculty
- Master classes and workshops with renowned visiting artists
- Two vocal/diction coachings per week with the resident principal coach and/or artistic
director
- Advanced language study
- Opportunities to meet with and audition for regional professional companies
Singers accepted into the Institute’s PAC program are awarded full tuition/fees, health
insurance and an $8,100 stipend to help cover living expenses.
