Karl Buttermann

Karl recently performed the role of William Jennings Bryan in The Janiec Opera Company’s production of The Ballad of Baby Doe at Brevard Music Center. A graduate of the Peabody Conservatory, where he studied with Dr. Stanley Cornet, Karl performed the roles of Sir Thomas Bertram in the U.S. premiere of the chamber opera Mansfield Park, The King in Cendrillon, Snug in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Dr. Javelinot in Dialogues des Carmélites, Mr. Olsen in Street Scene and most recently Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte.

In summer 2014, Karl performed in La rondine as Rabonnier at the Chautauqua Institution Voice Program in Chautauqua, New York. While at Chautauqua, Mr. Buttermann collaborated with Mikael Eliasen and Marlena Malas, and performed in a scene from Die Zauberflöte.

On the concert stage, he was the bass soloist with the Peabody Concert Orchestra in Haydn’s Harmoniemesse in 2014. Outside the U.S., Karl sang in Italy as Antonio in Le nozze di Figaro at the Amalfi Coast Music Festival in 2013.
