Practice Facilities & Storage

Practice Facilities
General-use practice rooms are located on the first floor of Gray Building. By using their One Card, all Music students can access these practice rooms.
In addition, special-use practice rooms are available to students enrolled to study the following instruments (these rooms are located on the first floor of Gray Building except as noted):

  • Harp (accessed via One Card);
  • Organ (the practice rooms are on the first floor of Gray Building and accessed via One Card; the Fisk organ is located in Crawford Hall and requires a key);
  • Percussion (accessed via One Card);
  • Piano (the rooms located in Gray Building are accessed via One Card; the rooms located in the “Tunnel” in Workplace are accessed via One Card and key); and
  • Double Bass (depending upon the room, accessed via key or One Card)

Any student who needs a key in order to access practice facilities should come to the Music Office in order to sign out the appropriate key.

Lockers & Storage Closets
Metal lockers are located on the first floor of the Gray Building and will be issued on a first-come, first-serve basis. There are single and double lockers. The larger double lockers are reserved specifically for horns, saxophones, trombones, and violas and should not be used by students who play other instruments. In order to use a locker, choose the one you would like to have for the year, place your personal combination padlock on it, and then come to the Music Office to register it, providing both the locker number and the combination of the lock you will be using. It is extremely important to complete this locker registration process as we must have a record of who is using which locker. (Please note that School of Music policy requires the use of a combination lock, not a keyed lock.)

Storage closets for large instruments are available on the first floor of the Gray Building. These storage closets are intended specifically for celli, double basses, guitars, tubas/euphoniums, and baritone saxophones. Keys to large instrument storage closets are available to students in the School of Music who are enrolled in an appropriate course of study. If you wish to use such a storage closet, come to the Music Office in order to sign out the appropriate key. (Please be aware that multiple students may be assigned to each of these storage closets.)
