Awards and Funding

The "Excellence in Teaching" awards series was established by the UNC Board of Governors. At UNC School of the Arts, recipients are chosen each year from those current, full-time members of the faculty who are nominated to receive an award. Students, faculty and alumni may nominate a faculty.

Nomination for the 2017-2018 Excellence in Teaching can be submitted in October 2017. Faculty who are recognized for excellence in teaching shall demonstrate:

  • Concern for students
  • Enthusiasm for the subject they teach
  • The ability to motivate and fairly critique student effort
  • The ability to fairly critique student effort and communicate that critique to the student
  • Organization of knowledge for student use
  • Command of the subject being taught
  • Up-to-date scholarship/creative work and awareness of recent developments in their field
  • The ability to integrate professional development into their teaching
  • Commitment to the UNCSA community and the greater community
