Quintessence

A recital of two of the greatest quintets of the chamber repertoire – Brahms’ F Minor Piano Quintet and Schubert’s beloved Trout Quintet – features UNCSA faculty artists Kevin Lawrence, Sheila Browne, Brooks Whitehouse, Paul Sharpe, and Eric Larsen, with guest violinist Janet Orenstein and guest pianist Lauren Winkelman.

"Harpers Ferry" by Barrie Stavis

Featuring members of Studios 3 & 4

In the fall of 1859, abolitionist John Brown engages in guerrilla warfare to raid the Harpers Ferry arsenal. What appears to be a successful raid takes a turn for the worse, and though he is tried and executed for his actions, his struggle for freedom ultimately prevails.

Acclaimed French choreographer Eric Oberdorff, artistic director of the Compagnie Humaine based in Nice, talks with Ethan Stiefel about the new world premiere he is creating for the upcoming Spring Dance Concert.

"Oklahoma!"

Don’t miss UNCSA’s first all-school musical since West Side Story took the Stevens Center by storm in 2007. Oklahoma! features the timeless story of a handsome young cowboy vying for the attention of a beautiful, headstrong farm girl. Set in the early 1900s and filled with humor, romance and drama, Oklahoma! changed musical theatre forever with its innovative integration of music and dance. UNCSA will present a faithful restaging of the original 1943 Broadway production, including the original Agnes de Mille choreography as well as many elements of the stage design. Proceeds will benefit the scholarship programs in all five arts schools at UNCSA.

Berio Sequenza Concert

Luciano Berio’s Sequenza series is one of the most significant musical achievements of the late 20th century, an output of virtuoso compositions that stretch the boundaries of both the instruments and the performer. The UNCSA faculty collaborates to present an evening of six Sequenzas by Tadeu Coelho, flute; Sheila Browne, viola; Taimur Sullivan, soprano saxophone; Judith Saxton, trumpet; Saxton Rose, bassoon; and Brooks Whitehouse, cello.
