15 (Tuesday)

The Viola in My Life

Czech pianist David Kalhous once again joins UNCSA violist Sheila Browne to bring a colorful and eclectic array of music from Turkey, Belgium, Germany and Hungary, and the United States. Morton Feldman’s breathtaking The Viola in My Life will be featured along with works by Ucarsu, Kurtag, Hindemith and Jongen.

7:30 p.m. at Watson Hall

$15 adults / $13 students and seniors

19 (Saturday)

Mozart Birthday Concert

Since 1978, the annual Mozart Birthday Concert has been among the most popular of UNCSA’s offerings. UNCSA faculty artists come together in a program of chamber music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in celebration of his 257th birthday.

SPECIAL EVENT PRICING: $20 Adults / $18 Students & Seniors

20 (Sunday)

Sonic Splash: UNCSA Brass Quintet and Kenan Professor of Organ Timothy Olsen

In their inaugural concert together, organist Timothy Olsen is joined by UNCSA Brass Quintet – faculty Judith Saxton, trumpet; John Ilika, trombone; David Jolley, horn; Matt Ransom, tuba; and Music Dean Wade Weast, trumpet – performing various combinations of brass and organ. Works by Bach, Gigout and Strauss included.

7:30 p.m. at Crawford Hall

$15 adults / $13 students and seniors

22 (Tuesday)

Low & Lower: It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time

Low & Lower strays again off the not-so-beaten path of the cello-bass repertoire, contrasting the Dragonetti Duetto with their global warming rendition of Flanders and Swan’s “Song of the Weather,” a UNCSA composer’s premiere, a pattered apology to Gilbert and Sullivan and a gift bag of surprises.

7:30 p.m. at Watson Hall

$15 adults / $13 students and seniors

26 (Saturday)

Kevin Lawrence and Dmitri Shteinberg in Recital

UNCSA faculty Kevin Lawrence, violin, and Dmitri Shteinberg, piano, will perform the Devil’s Trill Sonata by Tartini, the last violin sonata of Beethoven, and Ravel’s sonata, with its homage to the Jazz Age. Lawrence will also play String Force, a solo violin work written by Joan Tower in 2010.

7:30 p.m. at Watson Hall

$15 adults / $13 students and seniors

29 (Tuesday)

nu Plays New

The nu ensemble plays music for small ensembles by UNCSA composers Will Dixon, Quinn Dougherty, Noah Ferguson, Kenneth Florence, Nicholas Rich, Cheyne Runnels, Bruce Tippette and Dak van Vranken.
