Joseph Genualdi and Friends
UNCSA faculty members Oskar Espina-Ruiz, clarinet, Judith Saxton, trumpet, John Ilika, trombone, Saxton Rose, bassoon, John Beck, percussion, John Sharpe, bass, Marilyn Taylor, soprano, and Joseph Genualdi, violin, will perform the complete version of Igor Stravinsky’s L’histoire du soldat, narrated by Marilyn Taylor. L’histoire is the seminal work that spawned numerous 20th-century works for mixed chamber ensembles and served as stage music for drama and ballet.

A Violin Celebration
“A Violin Celebration” is a production of 10 violinists in solo and collaborative performances of contemporary works. Violinist Carolyn Stuart joins her current and former students, including two now at UNCSA, Bennett Astrove and Kaitlin Moreno, as well as those now studying at the University of South Florida and Boston University. The group will perform “Gran Turismo” for 8 violins by Andrew Norman, and a premiere transcription of “Radiance” for 6 violins by Robert Helps. Also featured are solo works by Augusta Read Thomas, Grażyna Bacewicz, and Marin Goleminov as well as works for singing violinists by Nick Williams and Louis Andriessen.

Michael Rowlett and Amanda Johnston
Guest artists Michael Rowlett, clarinet, and Amanda Johnston, piano, will present an eclectic program of music for clarinet and piano, including Kenins (Divertimento), Penderecki (Three Miniatures), Friedman (world premiere of his clarinet sonata), Reich (New York Counterpoint for clarinet solo and recording), Singer (Nocturne) and Poulenc (Sonata). Both artists are currently faculty members at the University of Mississippi; Johnston has just had published by Scarecrow Press her comparative guide to English and German Diction for singers.

Paul Sharpe Bass Recital
Paul Sharpe will be joined by pianist Allison Gagnon in a recital that includes Frantisek Hertl’s exceptional Sonata for Double Bass and Piano; a work written recently for Sharpe by N.C. composer John Allemeier called Night Music; John Deak’s dramatic and hilarious theatre piece, B.B. Wolf; and Evan Chambers’ Fisherstreet Duo with violist Sheila Browne.

Since 1978, the annual Mozart Birthday Concert has been among the most popular of UNCSA’s offerings. School of Music faculty artists come together in a program of chamber music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in celebration of his 256th birthday.

Fire Pink Trio
Classical Voice of North Carolina hailed Fire Pink Trio’s recent Raleigh, N.C. concert as being "filled with life’s experiences communicated musically with extraordinary skill and sensitivity.” Jacquelyn Bartlett, harp, Sheila Browne, viola, and Debra Reuter-Pivetta, flute, provide an evening of exuberant, lush, sensuous music by Villa-Lobos, Brahms and Roussel, assisted by Joseph Genualdi, violin, and Evan Richey, cello.
