WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Schools of Music, Design & Production and the Fletcher Opera Institute at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts present Les Contes d'Hoffmann, or, The Tales of Hoffmann, a romantic story love found and lost told through a beautifully expressive score.
Written by Jacques Offenbach, The Tales of Hoffmann was one of the most dynamic operas of the 1800’s, premiering in 1881. The libretto was based on a short story written by E.T.A. Hoffmann, who serves as the protagonist of the story. One of the most influential composers of his time, Jacques Offenbach inspired other masters such as Johann Strauss Jr. and Arthur Sullivan. The promising young singers of the A.J Fletcher Opera Institute will interpret this semi-comic, wistful love story in an original production designed by the talented students of UNCSA’s School Design & Production.
Performances are on January 31st and February 4th at 7:30 pm and February 2nd at 2 pm at the Stevens Center, 405 W. Fourth Street, Winston-Salem, NC. Tickets are $15 (Regular Admission) and $13 with student discount. The Tales of Hoffmann is a production of the Schools of Music, Design & Production, and the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute at the UNC School of the Arts. Call the UNCSA Box Office at (336) 721-1945 for reservations, or visit www.uncsa.edu/performances to purchase tickets online.

The Stevens Center, 405 W. Fourth
St., Winston-Salem, NC
Performed by members of the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute
Join the A.J. Fletcher Institute as it presents the many romantic adventures of Hoffmann, a poet searching for love only to find that it lies just beyond his reach. At every turn his actions are thwarted by a devilish character who turns up in Vienna, Munich and Venice. Offenbach’s glorious score is one of the most expressive in all of 19th century French Opera.
