Choreographic Professional Residency in Contemporary Ballet

Choreographic Professional Residency in Contemporary Ballet

The Choreographic Professional Residency is a two-week program to foster the development of new work by established Contemporary Ballet choreographers of exceptional talent. UNCSA will give two selected choreographers the opportunity to create new dance works by providing time, studio space and dancers. Through this initiative, UNCSA School of Dance looks to deepen its mission of developing original works, supporting artists and giving back to the broader community. Participation is by invitation only.

Choreographic Professional Residency June 10 – 23, 2018

The chosen choreographers will invite 8-10 professional dancers to UNCSA's campus for a two-week creation process. The dancers will participate in morning company class followed by a day of rehearsal with either one or both of the choreographers. This intimate setting will allow the choreographers to work deeply and collaboratively with the dancers to either research choreographic ideas or build towards a new work.

The UNCSA Summer Dance Choreographic Institute seeks to be a home for choreographic research and development especially in the underserved world of contemporary ballet choreography. Through this initiative we offer the luxury of time, space and dancers in the pursuit of research without the demands of a final product.
