The University of North Carolina School of the Arts School of Dance is one of the finest professional dance training centers in the world. It has been at the forefront of excellence in training of both high school and college dancers for almost 50 years. Graduates of the School's programs are at the creative vanguard of dance and can be found in all the major companies of Europe and America.

This program is for ages 12 to 21.


Curriculum

The UNCSA 2013 Summer Comprehensive Dance Intensive is a cross-disciplinary program that provides a highly focused and extensive pre-professional experience for intermediate and advanced dancers ages 12-21. The five-week session will run from June 23 - July 26.

The Comprehensive Dance curriculum is designed to reflect the needs of today's profesional dance world. Rooted in classical ballet and modern dance traditions, the training program also offers an exposure to a variety of dance forms to optimize proficiency, versatility, and creativity. The goal of all classes is to provide the highest level of professional training to encourage each student’s fullest technial and artistic development.

All students will take daily classes in both ballet and contemporary techniques taught by UNCSA faculty and distinguished guest artists. This comprehensive program also offers training in Pointe, Variations, Composition, Men's Class, Character, Partnering, Music, Acting for Dancers, Yoga, Contemporary Repertory, Contemporary Ballet Repertory, and Hip-Hop Repertory.  The session will conclude with a fully-produced concert of work generated during the five weeks. All summer students will have an opportunity to perform. 

An audition is required prior to enrollment in the Summer Intensive. Those interested in auditioning need not pre-apply or pre-register.  All registration information will be emailed to accepted dancers two weeks after each audition.

No pre-registration is necessary to audition for the Comprehensive Dance Summer Intensive.
A $20 audition fee is required – cash or check only.
Photographs and letters of recommendation are not required.

UNCSA Summer 2013 – Deadlines and Cancellation Policy

Deadlines

Online Registration opens                   January 3

Deadline for International Students       April 1

Priority Registration deadline*              May 1

Payment in full due                             May 15

* Priority Registration guarantees your place in your chosen program. Registrations received after May 1, 2013 are accepted on a case-by-case basis as residence hall space allows.

Space in each program is limited. Registrations received after a program has filled will be placed on a waiting list pending withdrawals.

Cancellation terms

$300 non-refundable deposit due at registration – check or credit card

Student withdrawal by June 1: refund of one-half of total paid, less non-refundable deposit

Student withdrawal after June 1: no refunds

In the event a program is cancelled by UNCSA, payments will be refunded in full

Students who have passed an audition process will be invited to register for the program. Registration will be open in January 2013.

The UNCSA Summer Comprehensive Dance Intensive is a non-credit program. No credit will be offered.
