Thinking, Making, Doing Together
Dancers are no longer tools for a choreographer to work on—they are valuable collaborators who contribute meaningfully to the creative process. How do we learn to work together to create as dancers and makers? The world-renowned Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and the School of Dance of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts lead an intensive, weeklong workshop designed to empower dancers and choreographers to work collaboratively to create meaningful art. Drawing from the Company’s and the School of Dance’s expertise, each day will provide intensive opportunities to move and make together. Pre-professional and professional dancers and choreographers passionate to expand their skills will find this intensive an invigorating challenge to the traditional approach to creating dance.

Using the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company’s repertory and methods as the springboard, our work together will develop our individual expressivity in order to create a dynamic community of cooperative artists. Participants will have a daily experience of technique classes, Company phrasework, collaborative methods for generating movement, and evening events to further the exchange of ideas among faculty and participants.
