David J. English, Vice Provost & Dean of Academic Affairs
Dr. David English joined UNC School of the Arts in April 2010, and currently serves as Vice Provost and Dean of Academic Affairs. He is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Office of Academic Affairs, is responsible for institutional accreditation and serves as the institution's SACS liaison, the institution's Chief Research Officer (CRO), and oversees the offices of Academic Planning and Institutional Research, Educational Outreach and Summer Programs, Faculty Affairs, and the Teaching and Learning Center. His research focuses on issues of college choice, graduate school choice, student debt, and outcomes of baccalaureate education.
He previously worked at The University of North Carolina - General Administration, where he directed the state-wide college access program CFNC.org, and at Appalachian State University where he served as an Assistant Director of Admissions. He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Research and Policy Analysis from North Carolina State University. He previously earned a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology from Appalachian State University.
The Office of Academic Affairs provides academic and administrative leadership in matters of curriculum, programming, development, and implementation of policies and procedures related to the education of students at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA). The Office of Academic Affairs works to ensure a learner-focused environment that is committed to the success of every student at UNCSA. Academic Affairs is responsible for UNCSA’s institutional accreditation through SACS. Academic Affairs also provides leadership for certificate and degree program development.
The Office of Academic Affairs is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the work of a number of other offices in support of student learning, including the Office of Academic Planning & Institutional Research, the Office of Educational Outreach & Summer Programs, the Office of Faculty Affairs, and the Teaching & Learning Center.
