This workshop helps participants understand conscious and unconscious biases and how they influence our behaviors. We will explore how bias may lead to microaggressive behaviors and inequities that impact students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders, especially those from historically marginalized groups. We will engage in making the invisible (bias) visible, disarming microaggressions, offender education, and help-seeking as strategic goals for responding to microaggressions.

3:30-4:30 p.m. Behind the Scenes: A look at Dangerous Corner with Carl Forsman and Caroline Cearley
Location: Catawba Theatre, Performance Place

JB Priestley’s 1932 thriller is a play that relies on a conventional narrative structure to tell a story about truth and perception. Professor Carl Forsman and Senior Directing student Caroline Cearley lead a tour of the set for the play, explicating how the set relates to Priestley’s themes and ideas. We’ll discuss what Mr. Priestley’s script suggests, and how the interpretation of physical space described in the text gets translated for a production today.

As we continue to make strides toward creating an administrative infrastructure for this initiative, we would like to expand the offerings.

The first four groups launched were Advancing EDIB, African American/Black, International, and Hispanic/Latine. This semester we will continue these groups as well as host events for Jewish, Asian/Pacific Islander, LGBTQIA, Indigenous/Native American, and Women. This Staff Enrichment Session will offer time to ask questions, offer suggestions, and learn more about how to get involved.
