The Chancellor serves as the chief executive officer of University of North Carolina School of the Arts, with responsibility for providing leadership and fulfilling the mission and vision of UNCSA in every aspect of its operations.
On May 20, UNC System Interim President Bill Roper named Brian Cole as the ninth chancellor of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA), effective immediately. Cole joined UNCSA in 2016 to become the dean of the School of Music and has served as interim chancellor since August 2019.
“As an internationally acclaimed artist and an experienced administrator, Brian Cole has proven himself uniquely positioned to understand the needs of our student artists at this pivotal time for our institution and our world” said Ralph Womble, chair of the UNCSA Board of Trustees and the chancellor search committee. “Brian is well positioned to build a strong leadership team and recruit top talent from the industry as we look ahead to shaping UNCSA’s next 50 years.”
