Adult Acting focuses on the skill of acting: living truthfully within imaginary circumstances, developing techniques to determine what the actor wants from other characters in a scene, talking and listening to scene partners in an authentic way. The class is structured around the skills, experience and needs of the participants. There is no textbook for class; handouts are at no additional cost.
The educational approach is based around Viola Spolin's techniques of freeing the mind by focusing the body. Students will use games developed by Spolin, Neva Boyd, Augusto Boal and others to solve a very complex or esoteric problem by focusing on solving a more concrete or simpler problem. The class emphasizes process over product. The last class may involve some showcasing of work and skills learned in class.
