How to Access the Writing Center Remotely

If you need help with a writing assignment or any other writing-related activity – whether you are on campus or off – the Writing Center is now available via Canvas.

All students are enrolled in a “class” called the Writing Center Help Desk (ENG99998.01). This is not a course that you will be graded in. There will be no tests or quizzes or modules or assignments. Participation is entirely voluntary.

Detailed instructions for reserving time for a session are available on the course home page.

We are using this platform to make it easy for anyone who is enrolled in any courses on Canvas to find us and make use of our services. If it works well for students, we may continue to use it in the future, in addition to in-person walk-in hours. Please let us know how it works for you!

If you have questions, please send us an email at and we will be happy to help however we can!

You can also keep up with any changes or reach us for chats on our Facebook group.

We will have someone available remotely during our usual walk-in hours (10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday – Friday), as well as some weekend hours, which will vary.

Depending on demand, other times may also be available, and we may be able to accommodate appointments and/or work asynchronously as well.

Depending on where you are and what time zone you’re in, we may need to reschedule, or we may be able to keep the appointment remotely. I will be as flexible and available as I can this semester.
