Bryce Richardson is a fourth-year bassoonist from Beaufort, South Carolina, studying with Saxton Rose. An alumnus of the South Carolina Governor School for Arts and Humanities, a boarding arts high school for gifted young artists, he now attends University of North Carolina School of the Arts and will graduate in 2020. Along with becoming a finalist and performing at The Peace Center for the SCGSAH Senior Showcase, Bryce has participated in a plethora of music intensives including the NewBassoon Institute, Peabody’s Bassoon Week and Emory’s Bassoon Extravaganza.
At UNCSA, he was a semi-finalist in the Woodwind Day Competition and is the recipient of a Kenan Excellence Scholarship. Some of the chamber ensembles Bryce is involved in are the Twin City Reed Quintet and Interrobang—a french horn bassoon duo dedicated to exploring new repertoire. He has also been invited to play with regional ensembles such as the Winston-Salem Symphony and Piedmont Wind Symphony. Throughout his career he has participated in master classes with bassoonists such as Fabio Cury, Philip Kolker, Sophie Dartigalongue, Martin Kuuskmann and Sonja Coppenbarger. After graduation, Bryce plans to continue exploring his love of music through the bassoon with a special focus on contemporary music.
