James has a BA in English Education from Livingstone College where he attended on a basketball scholarship, a MA in Public Administration from the University of South Florida and has completed all course work for his PhD in Human Resources from Capella University. James loves to write and has published two books of poetry and prose, “Light Visions” and “In a Picture of 40”. He is also a licensed professional broadcaster. James loves nature, and spends countless hours in his yard. He loves to garden, and has a backyard that has been certified by the NC Wildlife Federation as a natural habitat for a variety of animals that he has documented. James also has a tremendous passion for music and you will almost always hear it playing in his office. James began his professional career in Human Resources in 1983 in the United States Air Force as a Human Resources Specialist until 1987. From 1987 to 1998 He was a Human Resources Analyst with the City of Winston Salem and a Human Resources Manager from 1998 to 2012 with Winston Salem/Forsyth County Schools, before joining the UNCSA family as the Director of Human Resources in June of 2012.
