The Creative Catalyst Fellow in Community Engagement at Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft will create inclusive programming and events to maintain and grow community participation and engagement with Pocosin Arts in its rural community.

 

Responsibilities & Opportunities

Outreach:

• Strategize best methodology for community engagement
• Develop impactful inclusive experiences for both the adults and children of our community that bring people together in a safe environment
• Identify community leaders and outside programs and learn how Pocosin can support their work
• Attend community meetings and events
  
  

Administration:

• Document and track outcomes of events and programming
• Assist and manage staff and volunteers for events
• Communicate with local community and their leaders
• Manage events and participants
  
  

Communication:

• Create public information that articulates values and access
• Promote events and programs within the local community
  
  
  

Qualifications & Skills

• Can communicate effectively with both community members and Pocosin Arts staff
• Inventive and forward thinking with concern to community needs
• Can create inclusive and a safe space for all those that participate in Pocosin programming
• Agile in filling different roles when needed
• Can carefully navigate differing opinions and handle them with grace and care
• Project management and strong organizational skills

 

About Pocosin Arts

Pocosin Arts is a fine craft school located in Columbia, North Carolina right along the Scuppernong River. We offer weekly classes for adults, after school and summer programs for youth, and workshops ranging from 2-day to 2-week sessions in metals, clay, photography, drawing, painting, wood, textiles and more.

Creative Catalyst Fellowships, in partnership with the Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts at UNC School of the Arts, are highly competitive, paid fellowships that advance artist leadership through skill-building, mentoring, and community of practice; strengthen creative community networks to better address regional gaps; foster systemic approaches to increase access, inclusion and equity; and embrace participation and exchange across the creative sector.  Creative Catalyst Fellows will also gain access to educational and community-building opportunities.
