The Kenan Institute for the Arts strengthens our creative community by acting as a catalyst for innovative ideas, developing strategic partnerships and building artists’ capacity to generate, lead and sustain their work. Our programmatic work is focused in three strategic directions: Artist Leadership, Arts and Society and Career Pathways.

 

Happy Hill Partnership

The Kenan Institute for the Arts, along with the UNCSA School of Dance, work in partnership with the Happy Hill Neighborhood Association to present Happy Hill Arts, a place-based arts and cultural initiative in a historically African American community that neighbors the University.

Fifth-Year Fellowship

The Post-Graduate (Fifth-Year) Fellowship at UNCSA is a professional development program allowing recent graduates of undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs to remain on campus for one academic year following the completion of their degree.

Kenan Portable Internship

The Kenan Portable Internship is a Career Pathways program of the Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts and the UNCSA Office of Career Development and Community Engagement that allows rising seniors, graduate students and recent alumni to design a creative, 6- to 10-week-long summer internship with arts organizations or professionals within the United States.

Creative Community Lab

The Creative Community Lab is a 2500-square-foot leased space in the historic Railroad Building on South Liberty Street. This innovative facility will offer programmatic, office and "blue sky" meeting space for Kenan fellows, guest artists, partner organizations and others.

The Kenan Directing Fellowship at ACT -- A Contemporary Theatre in Seattle -- provides practical knowledge and experience to recent graduates of the School of Drama at the UNC School of the Arts who are embarking on a career in regional theatre.
