Employee Flu Clinic September 20

Female blowing her noseFlu season is almost here, but now is the time to protect yourself, your family and people you work with. People of all ages can get the flu. It can be dangerous for some people (like children and the elderly), but even healthy people get the flu. The flu is easy to get and easy to spread. The best way to keep from getting sick and spreading it to people you love is to get a flu shot every year.

There will be a Flu Clinic available to administer flu shots to those employees wishing to receive them. Check with your insurance for coverage. Most Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) members can get a flu shot at no extra cost. Flu clinic will be from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20, in the Welcome Center.

The flu shot: The truth
Sometimes people believe things about getting a flu shot that aren’t true. Here is what is true:

  • Truth: Getting it early (before December) is best, since it takes time for the body to use the shot to protect itself against the flu.
  • Truth: You cannot GET the flu from the flu shot. It is made from dead viruses.
  • Truth: You need a flu shot every year since the flu changes every year. Last year’s flu shot will NOT protect you against this year’s flu.
