UNCSA SGA hosts canned food drive
UNCSA’s undergraduate Student Government Association is sponsoring #WeGiveHere, a
student-led initiative to do something positive in our local community.
We all know how scarce a student’s free time can be during the school year, which can make it challenging for students to volunteer or participate with local non-profits.
With limited free time in mind, SGA feels that a canned food drive will provide students with an opportunity to give that fits their schedules.
The recipient organization for this year’s #WeGiveHere is Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC in Winston-Salem. Second Harvest is a Feeding America affiliate, which plays an active role in recovery efforts following major disasters, including the numerous hurricanes which recently impacted Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Puerto Rico, and wildfires in California.
So here’s how it work: from Monday, Oct. 16 through Sunday, Oct 29, undergraduate students can drop off canned food items at the Office of Student Engagement in Kenan Student Life Center (lower-level of Hanes Student Commons).
For a suggested donation of 4 (or more) 10oz. canned items, undergraduate students can receive a limited edition #WeGiveHere T-shirt (one T-shirt per undergraduate student, while supplies last). You can find the #WeGiveHere T-shirt design on SGA’s Instagram @uncsasga.
#WeGiveHere concludes Sunday, Oct. 29 with a “#WeGiveHere Wrap Party” at 9 p.m. in the Pickle Jar featuring UNCSA’s Improv comedy club. This event will be the final collection of canned food items.
