Staff Council officers’ busy summer yields plans
Staff Council representatives elected new officers at its June meeting. In July, the officers participated in an executive committee retreat to make strategic plans for programs and ways to continue to advocate for UNCSA staff members.
Sharon Fogarty of Summer & Community Programs was elected to be Chair Elect and Heather Lathrop from the School of Filmmaking was elected to be Secretary/Treasurer. Matt Horvat, Bursar, moves to Past Chair and Elizabeth White of Strategic Communications moves to Chair for 2019-20. Victoria Scott of Foundation was appointed Parliamentarian.
2019-20 Committee Chairs:
- Amber Russell of Police Department will chair the Special Events & Awards Committee.
- Marquetta Smith of Human Resources will chair the Professional Development Committee.
- Ramona Richmond of Residence Life will chair the Community Service and Sustainability Committee.
- Kathryn Rowe of the Library will continue as the Membership & Elections Committee chair.
2018-19 past committee chairs will serve on committees in mentor roles. Committee chairs and officers were assigned to serve as the Staff Council representatives on the UNCSA Board of Trustees committees.
Plans for 2019-20
The Special Events & Awards Committee will be planning outings to area sporting events, assisting HR with Employee Appreciation Day, Holiday Potluck, the Chili Cook-Off, and working with Faculty Council on joint social events. The committee, with the Secretary/Treasurer, will recognize staff nominated for Standing Ovations.
Staff Council is excited to report the organizing of on-campus professional development will move to be a permanent Human Resources function. The Professional Development Committee will continue to run the Professional Development Challenge. The committee also will be forming campus user groups consisting of staff who have completed similar Linkedin Learning training courses. These user groups will facilitate best practices on integrating skills with the work on campus.
The Community Service and Sustainability Committee will offer opportunities to participate in community service both on campus and off campus. Similar to the Professional Development Challenge, Staff Council will offer a Community Service Challenge that celebrates staff who use some or most of their 24 hours of community service leave. There will be recognition for both individuals and departments.
August Meeting Agenda
The August Staff Council meeting is 11 a.m.-noon, Thursday, Aug. 15 in the Gary A. Cobb Training room in the Police Department. Human Resources Director Angela Mahoney and Ombuds Joshua Canzona will discuss ways they are a resource for staff who are having issues with their work environment. Andrea Clemmer of HR will update on the Clear Pricing Project and the upcoming Benefit Enrollment. Committee chairs will report. All staff are invited to attend Staff Council meetings or to discuss the meeting with their district representatives. A special election will be held soon to elect an additional representative and alternate in District 4.
