Stephanie Colopy, Darren Chiott receive staff awards for excellence
Stephanie Colopy is the recipient of the Staff Professional Excellence Award, and Darren Chiott is the recipient of the Staff Community Service Award, Chancellor Brian Cole announced at the 2022 Celebration of Excellence Wednesday. Each recipient will receive $1,000 and an engraved award.
Stephanie Colopy, head of production in the School of Filmmaking
"She is a leader in her field and was praised by those who nominate her as being an exceptional collaborator across campus and disciplines, the glue that holds it all together in their department for both faculty and students, and someone that can be counted on to make things happen no matter the obstacles," Cole said.
A nominator wrote: "She is absolutely integral to our school. This year she has served as a liaison on behalf of SoF for the Collaborative Scheduling Initiative (CSI) in addition to all she does on a daily basis. As Head of Production, she oversees all aspects of our student productions (more than 100 every year). The safety and well-being of our students is her paramount concern and she proves that with her enduring commitment and constant engagement with all of our students. She is an incredible and knowledgeable industry resource for students and an outstanding, supportive colleague. Our student productions wouldn't happen without her.”
Other nominees for this award were: Melissa Brown, Health Services; Steve Cochrane, Financial Services; Brandon Davis, Campus Police; Ashley Donahue, Health Services; Rob Myers, Admissions; Robin O'Neal; Campus Performance Facilities; Vickie Simmons, Registrar; Lynne Stumpf, Registrar; and Quviah Streater, Residence Life.
Darren Chiott, assistant director of Student Financial Aid
"Staff Council also recognizes one staff member every year with a Community Service Award for exemplary understanding, empathy, devotion, and service to the community at large and to the University. Though we had just one nominee, which makes him the automatic winner, he is a worthy one," Cole said.
Chiott serves and leads in multiple areas within UNCSA and the larger community. He is the 2021-22 Staff Council chair and serves as a member on several campus committees, where he represents the staff. He serves on the Board of Trustees personnel committee, UNC Staff Assembly, UNCSA Campus Development Committee. He is the president of the Greater Forsyth Swim League, which is made of 19 different swim teams for ages 3- to 18-years-old. He also serves as the president of Grandview Swim Club.
A nominator wrote: "His devotion to UNCSA is clear through over 16 years of employment here.
