Former Foundation employee Ira Citron had died
We are saddened to report that former UNCSA employee Ira Citron has died. Ira passed
away on Aug. 3 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center with his two daughters by his
side. He was 88.
Ira worked in the UNCSA Foundation from 2004-17, and also assisted in other departments.
Many students, faculty and staff will remember picking up checks from Ira.
Ira graduated from New York University and served in the U.S. Army. He later started
a distinguished career in advertising in New York for the legendary Ted Bates agency.
After his daughters were born, the family moved to Winston-Salem, where he resided
for almost 50 years. After working alongside his father-in-law and wife in running
Robin’s Women’s Clothing Stores, he went back to his first love, advertising, working
at The Russell Agency. He ended his career at UNCSA.
Ira was also involved in his community as a past president of Temple Emanuel and a
volunteer for Piedmont Craftsmen, Senior Services and Samaritan Ministries’ soup kitchen.
A funeral service was held Aug. 7 at Temple Emanuel. Memorials may be made in his
honor to Senior Services, Trellis Hospice and Temple Emanuel. Online condolences may
