Staff Enrichment offerings slated for Sept. 20-21

Doodles of a lightbulb, brain, gears and sketchingSeptember Staff Enrichment time from 10 a.m.-noon and from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20 and Wednesday, Sept. 21. Staff can choose to do self- or team-directed professional development or participate in the Quality Workplace offerings.

Where noted, some of the events are open to faculty and students too.

Healthy Eating on a Budget (in person)

Aramark Registered Dietitian Kelli Wood discusses healthy eating on a budget, tips for grocery shopping, and how to write a grocery list. (10 a.m Tuesday, Sept. 20 in Hanes 301)

D&P Tour (in person)

You will be taking a tour of the Design and Production Scene Shop, Paint Shop, Prop Shop, Blacksmithing Shop and Animatronics Shop (Blacksmith and Animatronics Shops weather permitting), gaining a better understanding of what they do behind the scenes. Learn how each shop functions and how they interact with each other to produce what you see on stage. Meet in the Lobby of Design and Productions Main Office. Led by D&P faculty Bland Wade and Scott Beckwith.  (10 a.m Tuesday, Sept. 20 and repeated at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21. Meet in the D&P Lobby)

Financial Aid for Family, Friends, and Future Students (online)

Learn about completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), as well as other financial aid concepts and resources, including a preview of upcoming changes for the 2024-25 academic year. Intended as an overview and preview for staff parents and others connected to future college students. Led by Darren Chiott and Jane Caropreso Kamiab from the UNCSA Financial Aid Office. (11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20. Online.)

Campus Police Tour (in person)

Most of us have just been to the Police Department lobby to pick up a parking decal, but Lt. Dove will take you behind the scenes. You'll meet staff, learn about their emergency preparations, peek inside a police car, learn about program offerings, how and when to report to Campus Police, how Police can help other campus partners. Led by Lt. Dove (2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 Meet in Police building lobby.)

Spanish-English Conversation Meetup: Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration (in person)

Students, faculty and staff are welcome to this bilingual conversation group. This month we'll meet in the Library to learn about the Library's Spanish resources and to start celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Whether you learned your second language years ago, are studying using a language app or are interested in learning a second language, this no-pressure meetup will be a fun way to meet the bilingual campus community. Come and say hola (hello)! Light snacks served. (10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, Library 4th floor North End.) 

Craft Circle in the Makerspace (in person)

Staff and faculty are invited to drop in and gather for an hour of crafting  All skill levels in any craft. Even if you don't have a craft in progress, come and explore the Library Makerspace to see how you can use the equipment in your crafting. (10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 21, located on the  Library 1st floor and down the hallway from the restrooms is the Makerspace.)

Open Enrollment Training (online)

This training is intended to provide employees with a comprehensive overview of important and helpful information for 2023 Open Enrollment. The information that will be provided is intended to proactively answer questions you may have about enrolling and changes for employee benefits. Led by Keyona McNeill. (11. a.m. Wednesday, Sept 21.)

POSTPONED: Film: Behind the Scenes (in-person)

Note: Unfortunately this tour is postponed due to an unexpected production situation. Look for this tour during future Staff Enrichment times.
You may have heard how fun this tour was in July. Accompany School of Filmmaking production coordinator Matt Walkowski. You'll tour some of the unique filmmaking spaces we have on campus such as the sound stages, scoring stage, Foley stage, the ACE Exhibition Complex theatres and the New Media Building. Learn how these spaces are used in making films. (11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21. Meet under ACE Exhibition Complex marquee in Film Village.)

Position Control Workshop (online)

The position control workshop,will teach budget managers how to utilize their Position Control report in Power BI in conjunction with their Budget Status report to effectively track position budgets and identify lapsed salaries. Led by Mark Graves. (3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21)
