Public hearing for UNCSA Police department initial accreditation assessment

UNCSA police patch on a black sleeve of an officer.The University of North Carolina School of the Arts Police Department under the supervision of Police Chief Frank Brinkley, is seeking accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The University of North Carolina School of the Arts Police Department is scheduled for an assessment as part of the accreditation process by verifying that the department meets professional standards. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the assessment will be conducted virtually Dec. 05, 2022-Dec. 06, 2022.

CALEA’s accreditation program strives to improve the delivery of public safety services by maintaining a body of standards. The program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.

Ways to offer comments

Call: As part of the assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments by calling 336-631-1240 on Monday, Dec. 5, 2022, from noon-2 p.m. EST. Comments will be taken by the assessment team.

Microsoft Teams Meeting: Agency employees and the public are invited to offer comments at a Microsoft Teams public comment session on Monday, Dec. 05, 2022, at 2:15 p.m. EST. Additional information regarding the public comment session will be available on www.facebook.com/uncsapolice/ and www.instagram.com/uncsapolice/.

Telephone comments and Microsoft Teams comments at the public hearing are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards.
