Arts Schools opening Intensive Arts offering to all students

Musical symbols embedded in a heartbeat lineThe School of Music and School of Filmmaking extends an invitation to students from any arts school to attend its Intensive Arts offerings. As other schools finalize their schedules, the list and links below will be updated. Many of the offerings focus on health and wellness.

Music offerings include but are not limited to:

  • Overcoming Anxiety and Depression: A Polyvagal Approach. Learn how to quickly and effectively regulate your nervous system out of fight, flight, or freeze into calm, grounded and present.
  • Yoga Nidra. Existing between wakefulness and dream-state, yoga nidra is a combination of alert awareness and deep relaxation. Students are invited to bring a pillow and wear very comfortable clothing. 
  • Present Intense: Crash Course for Artists in Releasing Regret and Worry. Exploring tools for staying present when your brain wants to drag you in the past or the future.
  • Three-day residency and songwriting workshop with UNCSA alumna and 2022 Grammy nominated artist Becca Stevens.
  • Take a Birding Break. Fresh air and mindfulness are two powerful stress busters. As an antidote to the “intense” part of Intensive Arts, join Allison Gagnon for a morning outing to Salem Lake
  • The Art of Spontaneous Expression. Expanding Our Borders with Free Improvisation.
  • Diversity your Rep. Show-and-tell of recent acquisitions of sheet music by underrepresented composers.

Filmmaking offerings include but are not limited to:

  • PickleCon2022: Get your game on in the UNCSA Library with role-playing, board, video and social deduction games. There also will be a student marketplace, sensory space, craft space, and free snacks and beverages.
  • Production Team Workshop: Preparing for spring productions (offered three times).
  • The Exquisite Corpse in Motion: Activating Cinematic Approaches from Animation to Live Action
