Kenan Fellowships at The Kennedy Center

The William R. Kenan Jr. Fellowship at The Kennedy Center, now in its 16th year, seeks to provide emerging theater artists with a wide variety of experiences bridging their academic training with the professional theater community.

Kennedy Center Fellows are placed on projects with theater companies in Washington, D.C. including The Shakespeare Theatre, Folger Theatre, Studio Theatre, Theater J, Arena Stage and others, and with partner theaters across the country, such as Alliance Theatre, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Portland Center Stage and South Coast Rep. Up to five candidates will be selected for a Fellowship beginning Fall 2018 for a residency period to be mutually determined.

The Fellowship is open to graduates and current students of UNCSA’s undergraduate and graduate degree programs from the Schools of Drama and Design and Production who were members of the classes of 2013-2018. For the 2018-19 Fellowships, directors, stage managers, and all disciplines of design will be considered. Actors with strong cross-disciplinary or theatre-in-education interests will be considered. Students and graduates of UNCSA’s high school program are not eligible. Alumni who have already been awarded any fellowship through the William R. Kenan, Jr. Fellowship Programs are also not eligible.

William R. Kenan Jr. Fellows at Kennedy Center receive a salary of $700 per week and reimbursement for moving expenses to and from the Fellowship (up to $500 each way).
