Safety Notice 8-30-2022

The UNCSA Police and Public Safety Department has received reports of vehicle break-ins and a stolen bike early this morning. Regarding the 6 vehicles entered, no forced entry was used. The vehicles were found unlocked by the suspects. Suspects also stole one unsecured bike.

As a reminder, please lock your vehicles and do not leave valuables in your vehicle or in plain sight. If you have a bike on campus, please register your bike with UNCSA Police to help increase chances of recovery if it were to be stolen, also be sure to secure your bike on a bike rack.

Safety Notice 8-20-2022

Note: There is no ongoing threat to campus at this time.

On today's date, August 20th, 2022 at approximately 5:00 pm we received a call of shots fired at the corner of Waughtown Street and Chapel Street just outside of campus. The UNCSA Police & Public Safety Department along with Winston-Salem Police Department responded and will be leading the investigation. The suspect was believed to be an unidentified male in a black Suzuki 4-door sedan. No injuries were reported at this time and no damage to any property.

Addressing nationally trending social media posts:
As you may be aware, social media posts and rumors are circulating nationally with threats of violence today on school campuses. These posts are generic and are not directly related to UNCSA or any other school in our city or state according to state officials.

UNCSA Campus Police is aware and there is no evidence that there is any credibility to these generic posts. We will continue to employ campus safety procedures, and communicate if there is a credible threat related to UNCSA.

Safety Notice 11-13-2021

Note: There is no ongoing threat to campus at this time.

Shortly after 12 am on November 13, 2021, the UNCSA Police and Public Safety Department was on a security check of Gateway Lofts Apartments when officers began to monitor a vehicle pursuit conducted by the Winston-Salem Police Department. The WSPD pursuit ended in the parking lot of Gateway Lofts Apartments near the pedestrian bridge. UNCSA Police Officers assisted WSPD Officers in the securing the scene. Suspects were taken into custody without incident. No one was injured by police. One individual was taken by EMS for treatment due to injuries sustained elsewhere in the city.

  • Again, no one was injured by police at Gateway Lofts Apartments.
  • No UNCSA students at Gateway Lofts were injured due to the pursuit.
  • There is no ongoing threat to campus.
  • The related incident that spurred on the pursuit did not involve a threat towards campus or the community, other than this being the place the pursuit ended.

This incident is being investigated by the Winston-Salem Police Department.

Safety Notice 10-26-2021

Note: Subject in Custody/No ongoing threat.

The UNCSA Police and Public Safety Department has received reports of the sounds of shots fired on Waughtown Street near the Valero at the intersection of Waughtown and Alder. UNCSA Police responded to the area as did the Winston-Salem Police Department. The Winston-Salem Police Department took an individual in custody for an off-campus incident unrelated to campus. There are no others suspected in this incident and there is no continuing threat to campus at this time.

A message from UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA SCHOOL OF THE ARTS

[On Wednesday, September 1, 2021],  just after 12-noon, multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a shooting at Mount Tabor High School across town. Mount Tabor High School is 20 minutes away from UNCSA campus. UNCSA Police and Public Safety is monitoring the situation. At this time there is NO THREAT TO UNCSA CAMPUS. We will continue to monitor and assess the situation as it evolves.
