Overview

Composed of faculty artists Dmitri Vorobiev, piano, Kevin Lawrence, violin, and Brooks Whitehouse, cello, the Black Mountain Trio was named to honor the vision of Black Mountain College, a vibrant artistic and educational institution that enriched the cultural history of North Carolina during the middle of the 20th century. Each member of the trio has dedicated a significant part of his career to the musical life of North Carolina. In addition to performing in North and South Carolina, the trio has performed in Vermont and Ohio, as well as Beijing and Shenzhen, China.

For this concert, the Black Mountain Trio will perform Leonard Bernstein’s Piano Trio for piano, violin, and cello, and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s “Five Pieces, Op. 59.” The trio will also welcome new UNCSA viola faculty member Jordan Bak to join them in a performance of the magnificent Brahms Piano Quartet in C minor, Op. 60.

Program to Include:

  • Piano Trio for piano, violin and cello (1937) - Leonard Bernstein
  • Five Pieces, Op. 59 - Samuel Coleridge-Taylor
