Overview
Embark on a musical journey that traverses different cultures, traditions and timbres with the UNCSA Wind Ensemble. Conducted by Mark A. Norman, the evening opens with George Gershwin's “Cuban Overture,” transporting the audience to the lively streets of Havana with its infectious Afro-Cuban rhythms.
The journey continues to the Slavic world with faculty artist Ksenija Komljenović‘s work for wind band, “Slavdom,” which she calls “a love letter to my roots,” weaving traditional melodies with contemporary harmonies to reflect Eastern Europe's rich cultural heritage. A highlight of the evening is the North Carolina premiere of Jennifer Jolley's “Dust.” Performed by the esteemed Watson Brass, it evokes the stark beauty of rural Texas. The concert concludes with Omar Thomas’ “Come, Sunday!” a soulful tribute to the African American church tradition, blending gospel, jazz and classical elements. Join us for an unforgettable evening that celebrates the rich tapestry of global musical traditions.
