Acting Out! Summer Camp

UNCSA Acting Out Summer Day Camp will most likely have to remain an online model, but we have some big plans for every age group of children! Participants will be writing a movie script based on the skills built in Acting classes and accented by the extras like Circus Skills, Dance/Movement, Improvisation, Singing and Stage Combat!

We will use technology to bring our class together, on-screen in a variety of ways. We hope to have all classes focus on the common theme of "Tell Your Story: Communication Skills of the Artist." This scenario is designed to include opportunities for building community within their grade level class as well as interactive time, listening time, and off-camera time to work on 'assignments' on their own.

A sample day could look like:

8:30 - 9 a.m. Zoom check-in with whole class
9 - 9:30 a.m. Stretch and physical warm up – live interactive Zoom class; students can post questions and instructor may ask them to post videos of themselves doing the warm up on the online platform
9:15 - 10:30 a.m.* Improvisation games – interactive and in real time via Zoom – they are assigned a project to draw, create something from household items – WHAT STORY CAN YOU TELL?
9:15 - 10:30 a.m.* Circus Skills using household items (beans in a ziplock, scarves, pillows) – they are assigned a project to possibly build on their story with circus skill items
10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Acting instructor guides work on the Improv project as it relates to storytelling and begins to devise a script using student ideas – both instructors available for questions
11:30 - 12:30 p.m. Lunch break
12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Possible outdoor adventure; explore your surroundings and take us along! How can what you see and how it makes you feel add to our story?
1:45 - 2:30 p.m.* Music – sing alongs to provided pre-recorded accompaniments, interactive lessons using techniques to make you the best singer you can be! We hopefully will create our own songs/lyrics to existing songs to add to our movie!
1:45 - 2:30 p.m.* Dance - interactive Zoom class learning common terminology and steps; students will create their own dance moves to possibly be incorporated into the movie script!
2:45 - 3:45 p.m. Acting – storybook and/or devised performance work to build on a script. There may be a prompt from a book, object, picture; actors will create characters and build the story as the week goes on. Filming will be done on Thursday and will be shared at the end of the week
3:45 - 4 p.m. Zoom check in and wrap up
