Double Bass Summer Intensive
We want you! to attend a two-week online bass camp from your own home with Paul Sharpe, Professor of Double Bass at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
The Online Summer Double Bass Masterclass is open to students of all abilities, from middle school to adult. For the most basic technique class, students should, at minimum be able to play two-octave F and G major scales. The most advanced level will include undergraduate and graduate students majoring in double bass performance.

Dates: July 5 - 16, 2021
Cost: $420
Every student will receive the following:
- Four 45-minute lessons
- Six technique classes, in ability-appropriate divisions
- Four masterclasses to watch and play in (if the student is comfortable doing so)
Paul Sharpe's former students are playing professionally from on Broadway to Japan,
in the Washington National Opera and Kennedy Center Orchestra, to the recently hired
Assistant Principal of the Charlotte Symphony. Recent UNCSA bass studio graduates
are currently studying double bass performance at the Cleveland Institute, Indiana
University, University of Southern California, Vanderbilt University, Northwestern
University, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and earned substantial
scholarships to those schools and dozens of others, including Juilliard, University
of Michigan, Oberlin, University of North Texas, Boston University and Princeton University.
Additionally, students in Sharpe's UNCSA double bass studio have been a members of
NYO-USA (Carnegie Hall's touring and prestigious National Youth Orchestra) for four of the last five years.
