The School of Filmmaking has been recognized by Variety in its annual list of "Top Film Schools in North America." The widely-read industry publication noted the School of Filmmaking's 30th anniversary, the soon-to-be-launched Story Art Studio, and the new Dean's Advisory Council.

UNCSA has named alumnus John Langs, artistic director of the ACT Contemporary Theatre in Seattle since 2016, the next dean of the School of Drama, effective July 1. Langs will lead the conservatory's highly-ranked Drama program with a focus on interdisciplinary work, new technologies, inclusion in the arts and student well-being while preparing students for careers in an evolving industry.
