Unrestricted Elective Credits may be fulfilled at any time during the four years of the program using any course offered on the UNCSA campus. Courses offered by an Art School other than Music must receive approval of both the Dean of the School of Music (or designee) and the Dean (or designee) of the Art School offering the course.

All music students must perform in ensembles as assigned, even beyond the minimum. Minimum requirement: 4 semesters of Large Ensemble (MUS 5110, MUS 5120, MUS 5130, MUS 5140, MUS 5160); 4 semesters of Chamber Ensemble (MUS 5180); 8 semesters of either Large or Chamber Ensemble (MUS 51X0). Large Ensemble assignments are made by the ensemble directors in consultation with the major teacher; Chamber Ensemble assignments are approved by the major teacher.

FYS 1100: First Year Seminar may be taken during either the fall or spring semester.

ENG 1200: Writing About… may be taken during either the fall or spring semester.
