The Media + Emerging Technology Lab (METL) at UNC School of the Arts seeks a Creative Catalyst Fellow in Community Engagement to develop an electronic communications and social media program as well as spearhead community events for the Lab during a six-month period from July 1, 2021 to Dec 31, 2021 (with an additional six months possible, pending funding).
The Community Engagement Associate (CEA) will get to know the operations and programs of METL to assess, create and execute a communications plan to promote the work of the Lab and facilitate relationships between the Lab and local and national communities.
In addition, the CEA will develop and manage METL events, including occasional tours of the Lab by local partners, the campus-wide presentation of the final project created by the 2021 METL Residency, and pre-planning for the 2022 Future of Reality Summit. To broaden METL’s local and national relationships, and working with the Lab’s director and staff, the Community Engagement Associate will research and recommend a list of potential contacts and partners.

The Media + Emerging Technology Lab was launched in 2017 at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) by the School of Filmmaking, the #10 ranked film school in the country. One of the few technology labs in the country to be part of a nationally-ranked arts conservatory, METL is poised to train, engage and serve as a resource for the next generation of creative innovators - and to lead innovation across all industries including medicine, business, education, arts and culture, and gaming entertainment.
Creative Catalyst Fellowships, in partnership with the Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts at UNC School of the Arts, are highly competitive, paid fellowships that advance artist leadership through skill-building, mentoring, and community of practice; strengthen creative community networks to better address regional gaps; foster systemic approaches to increase access, inclusion and equity; and embrace participation and exchange across the creative sector. Creative Catalyst Fellows will also gain access to educational and community-building opportunities.
