Alan Hall is a professional drummer, educator and composer with more than four decades of experience in jazz and contemporary music. He has held teaching positions at Berklee College of Music, the California Jazz Conservatory, UC Berkeley and California State University, East Bay, and has worked with programs including the Monterey Jazz Festival Summer Camp and JazzCamp West.
An accomplished performer, Hall has toured internationally and performed or recorded with leading artists such as Lee Konitz, Dizzy Gillespie, Paul McCandless, Art Lande, Geoffrey Keezer and Rebecca Parris. His performance credits also include major productions such as Cirque du Soleil in New York and "Wicked" and Teatro ZinZanni in San Francisco.
Hall is the author of "Internalization: A Non-Reading Intensive Approach Toward Mastery of the Jazz Drumming Language" and "Drum Chart Supplement: The Real Easy Book," published by Sher Music. His writing has appeared in DownBeat and Percussive Notes.
As a composer, he has written for a wide range of ensembles—from big bands and jazz vocalists to dance groups and experimental projects—reflecting a performance career that spans genres including Afro-Cuban, funk, folk rock, country swing and contemporary jazz.
