Please carefully read through the Application Criteria and instructions before filling out the application below for the William R. Kenan, Jr. Fellowships at The Kennedy Center. We recommend gathering all required materials before completing the online application.

Application Criteria for 2020-21

  • Applicants must be a member of the graduating classes of 2015-20 from the undergraduate or graduate programs in the Schools of Design & Production or Drama.  
  • Candidates must demonstrate strong communication, time management and organizational skills in order to maintain a complex schedule; a desire to learn and grow as an artist and individual; curiosity and interest in the Washington, D.C. theatre community; must be self-motivated; and be highly collaborative.

Required Application Materials

Attach the following application materials to your online application.

  • Cover Letter: No longer than two pages that addresses the following: 
    • Why you are interested in the fellowship?
    • What you are hoping to learn or achieve from this experience?
    • What your artistic goals are for the future?
  • Resume or Curriculum Vitae

  • Portfolio (for designers, directors or stage managers). Portfolios can be uploaded as a PDF or linked to an online portfolio:
    • Designers: a representative portfolio of your design work
    • Directors: a representative portfolio of directing projects
    • Stage Managers: a representative sampling of your paperwork
  • Current Headshot (for actors only)

  • List of References: Names and contact information of three current references, with at least one  from UNCSA faculty
