Wiley Hausam named to head new Performance Facilities Department
Chancellor Lindsay Bierman has announced that Wiley Hausam will be the school’s new Managing Director of Performance Facilities, effective Aug. 1.
An independent producer, artist manager and consultant, Hausam is President of Hausam Arts LLC. He previously was Senior Artistic Advisor and Artistic & Executive Director at The Broad Stage at Santa Monica College, Executive Director of Stanford Live and Bing Concert Hall at Stanford University, Executive Director of The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College (State University of New York), and Executive Director of the Jack H. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at New York University.
Hausam will lead the newly formed Performance Facilities Department, which combines leadership of UNCSA’s Stevens Center, located downtown at 405 W. Fourth St., and Campus Performance Facilities, based at 1533 South Main St. He will provide oversight of all 11 of UNCSA’s performance facilities, including coordination of calendaring, cultivating community relationships, managing relationships with external partners, and facility planning and implementation. The position will report to Provost David English.
“Wiley’s experience launching world-class performance facilities at New York University and Stanford University will help us transform our aging, outdated theaters,” Chancellor Bierman said. “His top priorities will be the renovation of our largest on-campus venue, Performance Place, and the revitalization of the Stevens Center, both in planning phases.

Provost English said: “Wiley Hausam has managed live performance facilities in higher education since 2002. He also has significant experience as an arts presenter and producer. He’s perfectly suited for his new role.”
Hausam said, “I’m looking forward to joining UNCSA and coming to Winston-Salem, which has such a rich history of arts and culture. I have a passionate belief in conservatory training for young artists, and UNCSA is one of the best in our country! I believe I’m a good fit because of the breadth of my experience in the performing arts and my work in higher education. Wiley Hausam
At Hausam Arts LLC, which he opened in 2015 after leading Wiley Hausam Associates LLC from 1999-2010, his clients have included acclaimed puppeteer Basil Twist, The Kurt Weill Foundation for Music, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Santa Fe Opera, and Tony Award-winner Faith Prince, among others.
He previously was Senior Artistic Advisor and Artistic & Executive Director at The Broad Stage at Santa Monica College from 2015-17, where he presented an acclaimed West End staging of Orwell’s “1984” (which has since gone to Broadway), the Knights, Aaron Neville, Rosanne Cash, Chita Rivera and Matthew Morrison.
As Executive Director of Stanford Live and Bing Concert Hall at Stanford University from 2012-15, Hausam led the highly successful launch of the 842-seat Bing Concert Hall and the new Stanford Live brand. Performances presented included such stellar talents as Itzhak Perlman and the Young Virtuosos, Yo-Yo Ma, Kronos Quartet, Jonathan Berger’s “Visitations,” Jon Batiste, Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris, and Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin.
As Executive Director of The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College from 2008-12, he presented such artists as Denyce Graves, Lang Lang, Pinchas Zukerman, Bernadette Peters, Audra McDonald, Pilobolus, Savion Glover, the Mariinsky Orchestra led by Valery Gergiev, the Paul Taylor Dance Company, and The Acting Company.
As Executive Director of the Jack H. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at New York University from 2002-07, Hausam oversaw the construction of a new 850-seat proscenium theater, and developed young adult audiences for live performance through innovative programming. The theater presented artists such as Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, New York City Opera Vox Festival of new American Operas, and The Gate Theatre of Dublin’s acclaimed production of “Waiting for Godot,” as well as talks by Tony Kushner, Edward Albee, Harold Bloom, and Jeffrey D. Sachs introduced by Bono.
From 1993-2000, Hausam was a member of the senior staff at the legendary Public Theater/New York Shakespeare Festival. He was Associate Producer for four Public Theater/NYSF productions on Broadway, including “The Wild Party,” “On the Town,” “The Tempest” starring Patrick Stewart and “Bring in ’da Noise, Bring in ’da Funk.” In 1998, he launched Joe’s Pub, an important new venue in downtown Manhattan, and established the award-winning Songbook Series, which showcased singers from Broadway, cabaret, opera and world music traditions.
As an artists’ representative at International Creative Management in New York from 1987-93, he represented such important theater artists as George C. Wolfe, Anna Deavere Smith, and Suzan-Lori Parks.
Hausam has taught at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and at Purchase College. He attended the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and received a Bachelor of Music from Northwestern’s School of Music. He received a Certificate in Fundraising from NYU and did post-graduate study in Philosophy of Art at Columbia University.
He is a member of Arts Presenters, a board member of the Western Arts Alliance, and has been a member of the International Society of Performing Arts, Major University Presenters and California Presenters.
The nationwide search was led by Arts Consulting Group of Boston.
